James R. Pratt (Thomas Henry6, William5, William4, John3, William2, Griffin1), sixth child of Thomas Henry Pratt and Frances Irion, was born 1832, in Rockingham County, North Carolina. James was a twin brother of Thomas Henry Pratt. He was a farmer. He married, first, Lucy Jane Roberts, daughter of George W. Roberts and Janette Strong, December 26, 1856, in Rockingham County, North Carolina. Jane's sister, Susan, married James' brother, Thomas Henry Pratt. Jane likely died before 1860. There is no record of her burial. James married, second, Ruth Jane Lewis, January 28, 1860, in Rockingham County, North Carolina. James enlisted as a Private in the CSA, March 11, 1862, and joined Company A, 45th Infantry Regiment, North Carolina Volunteers. He was promoted to Corporal, September 30, 1862. James died while in service of an unknown illness at Drewry's Bluff, site of the Confederate Fort Darling, Chesterfield County, Virginia. There is no record of his burial. His only child, Joseph H. Pratt, was born three months before his death. It is likely that Ruth Lewis Pratt remarried, as there is no record of her death. James and Ruth Lewis Pratt had one known child:
