Dougherty, 89, of Johnson City, died Sunday in Salisbury, N.C., after a long illness. She was born in Carter County, Tenn., and was a member of the Tacoma Avenue Church of God. She was a school teacher for the Carter County School System. She is preceded in death by her husband, George Dougherty in 1969. Surviving are two sons, Floyd Minton, Johnson City, and Bill Dougherty, Portsmouth, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Clay (Pete) Miller, Salisbury, N.C., and Mrs James (Jane) Andrews, Kingsport; nine grandchildren and six greatchildren. Friends may call from 7-9 tonight at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Dr. William Allison officating. Burial will Follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. -------------------------------------------------- Obit: Salisbury Evening Post, Feb 9, 1981 Mrs. Dougherty of Rowan County Mrs. George C. Dougherty, 89, formerly of Johnson City, Tenn. and mother of Mrs Helen Miller of Salisbury, died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday in Rowan Manor Nursing Center. She had been in declining health several years and seriously ill three months. The funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Morris Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Johnson City. Burial will be in Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethon, Tenn. The Family will be at the funeral home in Johnson City Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Mrs. Dougherty was the former Tillie Carriger, daughter of the late William L. and Mollie Morrell Cariger. She was born Feb. 2, 1892, in Carter County, Tenn. She was educated in Carter County schools and East Tennesssee State University. She was a member of the Tocoma Church of God in Johnson City and a retired teacher in the Carter County schools. Her husband, died Oct. 1, 1969. Survivors, in addition to Mrs Miller, include two sons, Floyd Minton of Johnson City and Billy Joe Dougherty of Portsmouth, Va.; another daughter, Mrs. Jane Andrews of Kinsport, Tenn; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. -------------------------------------------------- Johnson City Newspaper Announcement: July 20, 1969 MR. AND MRS. GEORGE C. DOUGHERTY Couple Celebrates Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. George C. Dougherty, 416 Pine St., were honored July 20 on their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception given by their children Guests and relatives were served from a large table covered with yellow satin overlaid with net. An epergne holding yellow tapers, baby's breath, carnations and yellow rosebuds was the centerpiece. Floyd A. Minton, Bill Dougherty, Portsmouth, Va., Mrs Clay Miller, Salisbury, N.C.; and Mrs. James Andrews, Kingsport, are their children. The have nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
