Alpheus Daniel Pratt (Phillip Isaac7, Thomas Henry6, William5, William4, John3, William2, Griffin1), ninth child of Phillip Isaac Pratt and Nancy Webb Harris, was born April 3 1865, in Rockingham County, North Carolina. He married Mary Jane Martin, daughter of Daniel Livingston Martin and Mary Susan E. Hawkins, March 6, 1890, in Cascade, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She was born January 13, 1869, in Cascade, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Alpheus was a farmer and farmed the same land that had belonged to his parents three miles north of Leaksville. He loved his home and seldom left the property. When he was seventy he cut his foot and the resulting infection eventually led to the amputation of his leg a year later. He died a few days after his leg was amputated, July 25, 1936, at Duke University Hospital in North Carolina. At the time of his death he was the last surviving son of Phillip Isaac Pratt and Nancy Webb Harris. Mary Jane passed away 23 years later, April 30, 1959, in Rockingham County, North Carolina. Both are buried in the Pratt Cemetery, Eden, Rockingham County, North Carolina (Find A Grave Memorial # 34823913, 34823913). Alpheus and Mary Martin Pratt had four known children:

LAST RITES FOR A. D. PRATT HELD
Local Man Buried Monday. Death Followed Amputation Of His Leg.
Funeral service for Alpheus Daniel Pratt, age 71, was held Monday morning at his home three miles north of Leaksville. Rev. J. C. Ammons having charge.
Mr. Pratt died at Duke hospital, Saturdaynight, following the amputation of his leg a few days before. About a year abo, Mr. Pratt cut his foot, which resulted in the necessity for amputation.
Mr. Pratt was born at the old home place owned by his father Philip I. and mother, Nancy Webb Pratt, and he always lived there with the exception of one year that he lived in Leaksville at the old Hampton place just after he married Miss Mary Martin, of Cascade. He loved home and seldom left its threshold, his family life satisfying his social needs.
He was the last of a family of twelve, two brothers, Tom and Charlie, of Madison, having preceded him to the grave only a few years ago.
Surviving are his wife; three sons: A. D. Pratt, Jr., Philip, and Jack Pratt, and seven grandchildren.
Number of friends and relatives from Leaksville and neighboring towns gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to this family. The deceased was laid to rest in the family burial ground by the ancient cedar trees.
