  Israel E. Brockman went to California about 1846 and it is believed that he was a member of the Fremont Expedition. Israel Brockman and Sarah Jane Carriger loved to ride their horses over the Sonoma County countryside. He became the first sheriff of Sonoma, California in 1850 and was voted out of office in 1855. Sarah Jane died of tuberculosis in Sonoma County, age 32. Following Sarah Jane's death, Israel moved to Mazatlan, Mexico, in 1864 but returne to California in 1870. He settled in Julian, San Diego County, California.
