Note: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Obits: Salisbury Post: June 6, 1987 Clay R. Miller Clay R. Miller, 80, of 240 Richmond Road, died at 3:20 p.m. Friday at his home after being in declining health for three months and seriously ill for two weeks. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert M. Lewis, pastor, and Dr. D. A. Parker officiating. Burial will be in City Memorial Park. The body will remain at Lyerly Funeral Home until the service hour. The family will be at the residence. Memorials may b e made to First Presbertian Church, 308 W. Fisher St., Salisbury, N.C., or to Hospice of Rowan County, P.O. Box 1264, Salisbury, N.C. Born Aug. 31, 1906, in Stanly County, a son of the late Thomas L. and Mary Austin Miller, he was educated in the Stanly County schools. He was retired as an insurance representative with Jefferson Life Insurance Co. where he also served as district manager. He was a charter member of the Jefferson Standard Hall of Fame and was an organizer of and held offices in the Life Underwriters Association in Rowan County. He was aa charter member of the Cavalier Club of Greensboro and the Rotary Club. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was active in the Every Man's Bible Class and all activities in the church. He had also served on the Housing Authority for 10 years, was fund campaign leader for the Rowan County Chapter of the American Red Cross in 1949 and seved with his wife as co=chairman of the Uniter Way. His first wife, Sounea Benbow, died July 1, 1963. Survivors include his second wife, Helen "Pete" Dougherty; a son, Tom B. Miller of San Rafael, Calif; a daughter, Diana Miller Rainey of Charlotte; two stepsons, George C. Pratt of Marion and F.
