Note: --- The child in the 10-15 year range (Source 3), we believe, is Greenbury C. Sumner, a brother of Elliott Sumner, who came to live with his family after their father, William Sumner, broke up his home and family after his wife died. JDS/MKF --- The child in the under 5 age group living with William Sumner is Greenbury C. Sumner. (Source 4) --- "G. C. Sumner's Book, Sheridan Hamilton Co., Ind" and "Mr. G. B. Sumner Sheridan Ind., Hamilton Co." are listed on the flyleaf. ... "G. C. Sumner, Hortonville Ind." is located on the next blank page. ... "Birth-day dinner for G. C. Sumner at the age of 50. 150 persons attended. All this was written by C. H. Sumner." ... "35th Anniversary of G. C. & A. Sumner selebrated [sic] Dec. 31, 1892. over one hundred people took dinner. recd. $50.00 worth of presents." ... The marriage entry in the Bible for G. C. and Amanda (Moore) Sumner shows they were married "December the 31, 1858." This contradicts the previous entry which, when calculated, shows they were married in 1857. (Source 6) JDS/MKF --- "Green C. Sumner, Died April 10, 1905, Age 78 years." (Source 7) By the calendar, he was not 78 years old, but he lacked only 32 days, so 78 years is what was printed. JDS/MKF\ --- "The deceased [Charles H. Sumner] was...a son of Greenberry Sumner, an early settler of Washington township." (Source 9) --- "Charles H. Sumner, son of Greenberry Sumner, was born in the neighborhood near Hortonville, Hamilton County, Indiana, on January the First, 1862. He died at his home north of Westfield July the 15th, 1915, at the age of 53 years, 6 months and 14 days..." (Source 11) :::::PROBATE RECORD B, 1830 - 1838 (WAYNE COUNTY, INDIANA) --- [PROBATE RECORDS]---p. 187 > Name, Notes/Quotes, Residence, (Elected/Appointed), Birth, Variant Spellings --- "February Term A.D. 1835 At a Probate Court began and held at Centreville in and for the County of Wa(yne) and State of Indiana on Monday the 9.th day of February A.D.1835 Before the Honorable Nathan Smith Sole judge of Said Court...Elliott Sumner is appointed by the Court guardian of the persons and estates of ThomaS Sumner, Elizabeth Sumner, and Greenville C Sumner infant heirs of the estate of George CorneliuS deceased under the age of fourteen years..." :::::INDIANA, MARRIAGES, 1811-1959 > Name, Notes/Quotes, Spouse, Marriage, Variant Spelling, Marriage License, Residence --- "GROOM: Greenberry C Sumner...BRIDE: Amanda Moore...DATE OF LICENSE: 30 Dec 1857 COUNTY OF LICENSE: Hamilton DATE OF MARRIAGE: 31 Dec 1857 PLACE OF MARRIAGE: , Hamilton, Indiana..." :::::HAMILTON COUNTY, (IND) CEMETERIES VOL. 1---p. 39 > Name, Notes/Quotes, Child, Spouse, Variant Spelling --- "SPICEWOOD CEMETERY...Moore, John W. [sic] s of G.G. [sic] & Amanda (Sumner d.6-2-1883 23 yrs Lavisa w of John d.3-23-187(a '/' typed over a '?')..." ...There is no entry in this source for a gravemarker for John Moore (wife Lavisa). Amanda Sumner is the daughter of John and Lavisa Moore. John W. Moore is incorrect and should be John W. Sumner as he is the son of G. C. [not G. G.] and Amanda (Moore) Sumner. JDS
