...I was told by my father that his dad met with "Aunt Cindy" Smith, his dad's cousin, at her request and she informed him that she 'needed a good home' for a couple of pictures. W.N. and Fern took the large pictures of Daniel Smith and Abigail Hartley Smith, I am supposing, after "Old Jim" Smith, John N.'s firstborn, died. Grandpa asked Dad if he wanted the pictures and obligingly he took them. This prompted him to want to know more about the man in the picture so Grandpa and Fern obliged, met with "Aunt" Cindy, and then Fern forwarded the information to Dad in 1966. [JDS]

Love [signed]" [continuing on two sheets of paper written on both sides] "__What we found out about the Smith pictures 'Daniel Smith born May 1 1807 in North Carolina while an infant moved ^to^ the state of Ohio with his parents and lived with them until 11 years of age then was "bound" to Joseph Coats until 21 years of age --- moved to Marion county Indiana at the age of 12 years In May 1828 was married to Nellie Harrison Lived with her for five years. She died there were no children by this union Second marriage to Abigal Hartley July 8 1834 10 children were born to this Union -- Five died The five that lived were David Smith Sally Lovell Nancy Gray John N. Smith Daniel Smith (W.N. Smith's father) __Daniel ^Smith^ and Abigal ^Smith^ moved to Adams township Hamilton County in 1835 and lived in this neighborhood until his death April 26 1893 aged 85 years 11 months and 26 days -- Joined M. E. church in Feb 1838 -- lived a Christian life ever since Abigal Smith departed this life April 14 1901 aged 84 years 9 mo and 28 days. She was a member of the M. E. Church and lived a consistent Christain until death. She leaves to mourn their loss three sons two daughters 44 grand-children and 16 great grand-children and many friends who will never forget her Christain life. She was the oldest relative of the writer and I will never forget my visit to see her as she neared the sunny banks of deliverance. Dad told me several times that he thought "Aunt" Cindy, who was his father's cousin, had written the newspaper item quoted in the material.
