Currently, I think Polly Gillum is the remarried widow of James B. Dale who is the son of William Dale. George* Dale, speaking in his will of his niece, Edith Dale, the daughter of Polly Gillum, is somewhat correct; if James B. Dale, the son of William Dale, married Polly and William is a brother to George*, then James is his nephew and Edith is his grandniece. Somehow, I would have liked to have been there when George* was reciting his will and explaining to the scribe how they were related and he not understanding what he was hearing yet wrote what he thought he was hearing as he also lived in and amongst this large Dale clan. But this is no excuse for George* saying "my niece Manerva Dale, daughter of my sons John Dale" unless he was affected by senility. Manerva Dale would be George* Dale's granddaughter and this would show how confused the scribe became. JDS ...
