a. Note:   Jeff moved to Detroit, Michigan between 1918 and 1920. In 1920 he was living at 171 Henry Street in Detroit with his sister Avrie Lou, as shown on the census.
  Jeff went to work for the company Basman A. M. where his future wife Jessie had been working for several years.
 F. B. Stevens was a manufacturer of bricks and was located at Larned and 3rd.
 Basman A. M. Company made ventilators, smoke stacks, breaching, tanks blow pipes and ventilation systems. The company was located at 1644-1646 W. Fort.

  The 1930 census shows Jeff was a bookkeeper at a motor company. He lived in apartment 308 at 9765 N Martindale Ave. At this time the family had a radio in the home.
  The 1940 census shows Jeff as an accountant at an auto manufacturer. He was renting an apartment at 4862 Fernwood Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. He had completed 4 years of high school. He worked 40 hours the week of March 24, 1940.
  Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Whitehurst this week were Jeff Farmer Gamble of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs William Herndon of Leslie, Ga.
