Following these assignments he was assigned as the principal of the West Waynesburg school in Franklin Township. About 1943 he became the Physical Education teacher and head football and basketball coach at Blairsville High School and about 1945 the principal and head football coach at Blairsville High School. Around 1956 he became a teacher and principal at Mt. Morris High School. On June 8, 1970, he retired from the Central Greene School District, where he was the Principal at East Franklin Elementary School. On April 22, 1960, he advanced to membership in the Legion of the Moose. On October 23, 1993, he was named a Charter Member of the Paul R. Stewart Society at Waynesburg College. (Jake) Porter of 135 Crago Ave., Waynesburg, will celebrate his 90th birthday Thursday. He was born March 30, 1905, in Nineveh, a son of William J. and Nancy Sprowls Porter. Mr. Porter is a graduate of Waynesburg College. He worked as a teacher, coach and school administrator in the Blairsville and Waynesburg areas. He also had worked as a Franklin Township supervisor. His wife is Margaret Berryhill Porter. They have two sons, William E. Porter of Bluefield, Va., and Ralph Edward Porter II of Waynesburg; and two grandchildren, Kristin and Will Porter. Mr. Porter lived most of his life in Greene County, where he was a 1929 graduate of Nineveh High School, and was a 1932 graduate of Waynesburg College. He was a member and two times Exalted Ruler of BPO Elks Lodge 757 and was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 461, both of Waynesburg. He also was a member of the Wolfmen and the Paul R. Stewart Society, both of Waynesburg College. In 1970, he retired as principal of East Franklin Elementray School in Waynesburg, after a long career in education, serving as a teacher, coach and principal at schools in Avella, Blairsville, Morris Township, Mt. Morris and Waynesburg. After retirement, he served as Franklin Township supervisor in Greene County from 1978 to 1983. Surviving is his wife, Margaret (Peg) Berryhill Porter, whom he married June 8, 1937. Also surviving are two sons, William Edward Porter of Hilton Head Island, S. C., and R. Edward Porter II of Waynesburg; two grandchildren, Kristin and William J. Porter; and several nieces and nephews.
