  'UNCLE COLONEL' WISE
An elderly gentleman alighted from the morning train from Huntington,W.VA. in the morning the 16th, inquired the way to the home of MRS. M.E. Ealy, his niece and was her guest Saturday and for the SPROWLS-WISE reunion held Sunday. Mrs. Ealy with her sisters made a trip some time to visit the uncle but until they mentioned the name of Col. Cody (Buffalo Bill), they didn't get anywhere. But that name found him just across the street. The name was applied because of his resemblance to the famous frontiersman. with his gray hair and Vandyke beard. But to the kindred, he is "Uncle Colonel". There are other acquaintances of the gentleman, however, one being the editor of the Recorder, who knew him as T.H.A. Wise, Photographer, who located in Burgettstown at the intersection of "Mud Lane," Shady Avenue, now if you please and Washington Street, 56 years ago in 1883, and had not seen him in fully fifty years. "Uncle Colonel" is now 81 years young, is vigorous and possesses his mental facilities to a remarkable degree. He provided alot of wholesome reminiscent entertainment to his hostess and kindred and to the folk attending the reunion.
A nephew, Ollie Wise, had not seen his uncle in near 40 years. The reunion attended by near 200 persons was held at the home of another niece. Mrs. S.A. Dague on Prosperity Pike. Uncle Colonel Wise has resided at Huntington since 1908. For some time he conducted a western or Buffalo Bill show, one of the interests that contributed the nickname by which he is best known in Huntington. In his travels he developed two hobbies, trading watches and owning old violins. He lost a number of highly valued violins in the big flood of March 1937, the high water about submerging his home.
