In the Horn Papers by W. F. Horn (Volume 3 - page 34 - A-59-126) reference is made to a tract of land, named "Parrot's Grove", containing 341 acres and 128 perches, which was warranted by James Porter on March 4, 1785, surveyed on August 23, 1785 and patented on November 5, 1803 to the warrantee. Copies of these original documents have been obtained from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Division of Land Records and Patents, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17108.

In the Washington County, Pennsylvania Tax Records for 1788, there is a listing for James Porter in Franklin Township (now Greene County) indicating that he paid 8 shillings and 6 pence state tax and 4 shillings and 3 pence county tax. These same records indicate that in 1788 he was taxed for 2 horses, 3 cows and 200 acres of land. The rates are listed as 36 and 6.

There is a James Porter listed in "Early Harford Countians Individuals Living in Harford County, Maryland, In Its Formative Years Volume 3: Supplement", Henry C. Peden, Jr., Willow Bend Books, Westminster, Maryland, 2001, pages 554 and 598. I have not verified that this is my 4th great grandfather, but according to L. K. Evans in his Pioneer History of Greene County, Pennsylvania, my 4th great grandfather and Billy Lafferty raised a crop of corn on farms in the Smith Creek area before the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. Seeing that my 4th great grandfather and a William Lafferty were both listed in the above reference as being "Taxable in Susquehanna Hundred, 1775Ó, there is a good likelihood that this is my 4th great grandfather.
