Courthouse records) The following was excerpted from "Frames From the Future - Iron River Area, Michigan", edited by Marcia Bernhardt: Born in Are[Åre], Jämtland, Sweden, September 11, 1869, first came to the U.S. in the year of 1890, as a young man of twenty-one. At this time he homesteaded (2) forties of land in Beechwood, Michigan, Range 43-36 Section 21 N.E., deed recorded 1901. He also purchased two other forties of land later on in the same area. One was heavily timbered, the other cut-over land. He married the former Ida Caroline Johansson of Jämtland, Sweden, in August 1901 in Iron River, Michigan. They had three children namely: Olof Einar of Bates, Clarence Walter of Beechwood and Inez Jennie (Mrs. Albert Greig) of Iron River. First they lived near the Fair Grounds, then in 1912 they moved to a two story home on West Genesee Street that he, being a carpenter by trade, had built. In the summer of July 1917 they moved and settled on the homestead in Beechwood, where most ot the lumber came from his own trees. He cut the lumber on his own sawmill to build the bungalow home. He practiced farming and logging for many years, during the 1920's and 1930's. He also worked for many summers as a carpenter at the "Big Sand Lake Country Club" near Phelps at the time most of the buildings were being built there. He also built boats as a hobby. He had three brothers and two sisters all born in Sweden. OBITUARY Iron River Reporter Dec 29 1944 "Beechwood Farmer Dies" Ill for five years, Ole Olson, 75, died at his farm home in Beechwood Saturday of a heart ailment. Funeral rites were held Wednesday at 1:30 at the Johns Funeral home and at 2 from the Bethany Lutheran church, Beechwood, by the Rev. Edward Peterson. Interment was in the Resthaven receiving vault. He was born Sept. 11, 1869 in Sweden and came to the United States in 1890, settling on a homestead in Beechwood. A carpenter by trade, he worked about Iron River until 1917 and then retired to his farm where he remained. He leaves his widow Ida; a daughter Mrs. Albert Greig, San Diego, Calif., two sons, Einor of Bates and Clarence of Beechwood; a brother Nels of Iron River Township, and a sister Mrs. Ida Wall, Minneapolis; also six grandchildren.
