a. Note:   his school mates were "Jimmy" later Sir James Allan ad Jack Taiaroa, both of whom were members of the first New Zealand All Black Team 1905.
 In 1887, Peter went to Victoria ,australia, in charge of some horses which were sold over there. He spent two years droving in many parts of Victoris. On one occassion he drove 990 head of cattle to the South Australian border, a task which took him several weeks to accomplish.The stock routes in those days were very wide being three chain roads.
 The highlight of Peter"s two years across the Tasman was seeing Carbine win the Melbourne Cup in 1888.
 He also witnessed the Melbourne Exhibition.
 On his return to New Zealand he was just in time to attend the Dunedin and South Seas Exhibition in 1889.
 On 26th october 1892 Peter married Jane Munro daughter of George Munro in Lawrence.
 Peter has vaious occupations such as working on a threshing mill with his brother James, when the accepted thin was fresh straw on the stable floor for sleeping quarters.
 Quite often though, even a stable was not available, and he and his brother were glad to climb up on top of the haystack for a few hours sleep - for they worked long into the night.
 Peter was butchering too, in Tapanui and with his cousin John Stevenson at Gore.
 Later he took up farm managing and fat lamb buying.
 After he married he farmed for a while at Crookston then joined the Land and Estate form of Fait t&amp; Co of Gore.
 Peter led a very active public life. For years he was Secretary of the Gore Sheep Dog Trail Club and also Secretary of the Gore School Committee. For years he was a member of the Gore Agricultural and Pastoral Association becomming President of the Association in 1913 and finnally a life member.
 Politics occupied the time of Peter too, he being Secretary of the old Gore Liberal Party Committee when the campaigned for the Hon. robert McNab the year he was defeated by G J Anderson.
 In 1915 Peter tiik over the farm "Balmoral" at Matarau form his brother James. In March 1948, he, with his brother Fred, journeyed to Dunedin to take part in the celebrations commemorating the landing of the Philip Laing and John Wickliffe at Port Chalmers. They were the only surviving members of the family of James and Jane at that time, and although Peter was in his late eighties it did not dter him from entering into the full spirit of the celebrations. He died in 1950 at his farm "Ba;moral", Matarau where he had been farming for thirty-five years. he had reached the advanced age of ninety years.
