Note: Marguerite Banks Tilghman died to this life on June 20th at Crave n R e g ional Medical Center. She fully believed the comforting word s in t h e s cripture that ?to be absent from the body is to be presen t wit h th e Lo rd? --- and so she is! Marguerite was born on March 6, 1911 in New Bern as one of ten chil d r e n to Jesse and Mae Banks. Her parents were in the grocery busine s s f o r many years. During her years of employment she worked at St . L uke ? s Hospital and later for Dr. Charles Ashford, Sr. and Dr. Wi llia m Ho ll ister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Tilghman, he r p a r ents, four sisters, and two brothers. Survivors include four d augh te r s and a step-son: Mary Louise Bishop (husband John) of New B ern , Pat ri cia ?Pat? Ipock (husband Gene) of Kinston, Dixie Fossum ( husb and De an ) of Colonial Heights, Va., Sandra Sasser of Burlington , an d Donni e Ti lghman (wife Wanda) of New Bern. She is also survive d b y one sist er, M artha Miller of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and two brothe rs , J. F. Bank s of Pa lmetto, Fla. And Bill Banks of Virginia Beach , Va . Also left t o cheris h her memory are eleven grandchildren an d numer ous great, gre at-grea t grandchildren, and nieces and nephews . For several years Marguerite has resided at Homeplace of New Bern A s s i sted Living where she has made many dear friends. Also, in her c ir c l e of friends are those from her church, Christ Episcopal, one s fr o m Fi rst Presbyterian, the Sunday afternoon group from Calvar y Churc h , an d the Monday Bible Study group from First Baptist. ?Ret e?s? fam il y wou ld like to thank all of these, and so many others wh o have lo ve d and e nriched her life.
