  In the name of God amen, I Samuel Harrell of the County of Gate s a n d S tate of North Carolina being week body but of sound and disp osi n g min d and memory, and knoing that it is appointed for all me n onc e t o die , and the time it may happen uncertian do make and ord ain th is i nstrum ent of writing to be and contain my last will and t estemen t i n manne r and form following,
  Impremint, I recomend my sole unto the hands of Almighty God wh o g a v e it, hoping that he will recieve the same, and my body to th e ear t h t o be buryed in a decent and christian manner by my executo rs her ea fte r mentioned.
  Item, I lend to my loving wife Sally Harrell the use of my land a n d p l antation whereon I now live during her natural life also the u s e o f te n negros namely Ceasor, George, Lydia, Rose and her younge s t chil d Har riett, Liller, Aggy, Peter, Dave and Pomp and all my st oc k and f urnitu re not given away after my just debts are paid to he r d uring he r natur al life and after her death, I give the land to m y th ree young est son s namely Willis Harrell, Andrew Harrell and Isa ac Ha rrell to t hem an d their heirs and assign forever but in case t hat ei ther of m y said so ns should die without issue, then the lan d to be d ivided bet ween the s urviver or survivers of them their hei rs or assi gns forever . It is all so my my will and desire that all o f the negro s stock an d furniture ab ove mentioned be divided betwee n my five you ngest child ren after the d eath of my loving wife Sall y Harrell namel y Henry Harr ell, Willis Harr ell, Andrew Harrell, Eli zabeth Harrell a nd Isaac Harr ell to them and t heir heirs and assign s forever.
  Item, I give and bequeath to my son William Harrell, the land t h a t h e now lives on beginning in the Horse Pool Swamp, then runni n g u p th e swamp to Moses Briggs' line into the Desert to the back l in e o f Jose ph Gorodon's line, then along the said Gordon's line t o th e fir st stat ion containing three hundred and eighty acres mor e or le ss, al so one n egro woman named Lace and her five children na mly Beck , Judy , Gilbert , Lydia and Pomp and all the stock and furni ture tha t he ha s already i n his possession to him and his heirs an d assign s for ever .
  Item, I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Harrell one negro w o m a n named Peggy and her child Milley, one bed & furniture one tab l e a n d one trunk, that s now called hers, to her and her heirs fo r ev er.
  Item I give and bequeath to my son Noah Harrell, one negro boy na m e d M ingo, one negro girl named Pinder and all the stock and furnit u r e tha t h now has in his possession, also two hundred and fifty do ll ar s in b onds and notes arrising out of the sale of my personal es at e t o him an d his heirs and assigns for ever.
  Item, I give and bequeath to my loving son Abner Harrell two negr o s n a mely Dinah and her child Harry and all the property that I alr ea dy p u t in his possession to him and his heirs and assigns for eve r.
  Item, I give and bequeath to my son James Harrell the lands tha t I p u r chased of James Creesy formerly belonging to David Rice dec' d. al s o tw o negros named Jenny and Tom to him and his heirs and ass igns f o r ever .
  Item, I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph Harrell the land s t h a t I purchased of Josiah Lassiter and Nathaniel Riddick cotaini ng o n e h undred acres, more or less, also one hundred acres of lan d Layi n g on t he west side of the deep branch bounded by the lands o f Willi a m Harrel l and Moses Briggs line near Willis old feilds, fro m ther e t o the Hors e Pool Swamp to he first station, containing on e hundre d ac res more o r less, also the following negros Emanuel, Be n, Amy an d Sol omon, als o one three year old colt to him and his hei rs and ass igns f or ever.
  Item, I give and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Harrell, two negro s n a m ely July and Lucy to her and her heirs and assigns for ever.
