By his tombstone, David Benjamin Ballance was born 6 March 1840 a n d d i ed 27 June 1904. "Ben" married circa 1875 Martha E. Brodie (p ro bab l y born in Bertie Co., NC) who was born in 1852 and died circ a 18 79-8 2 . They were the parents of Robert G. Ballance (born 1876) , Ann a L. B al lance (born circa 1879, who married [Unknown] Yarbroug h), an d Hatti e ( Martha) Ballance.
After the death of his first wife, David Benjamin Ballance move d t o B e rtie County, North Carolina, (area of Lewiston) and in 188 2 marr ie d Ru th Gillam. They were the parents of Maud(e) Auburn (Alf ord) Ba lla nce , Ida Ballance, and Ben(jamin Hall) Ballance.
"Ben" moved back to Hyde before the 1900 Census. He died on 27 Ju n e 1 9 04 and was buried at Amity Church Cemetery in Lake Landing.
