Note: Born on the outskirts of Vanceboro (New Bern side) while her father was working on the farm belonging to Octavius "Tave" McLawhorn. The father, John James Parsons, died when Tillie was about a year old thus she never knew her daddy. There is conflict in the "intended" spelling of Tillie's name as well as dates. Tillie's birth is given as Feb. 3, 1912 on her delayed birth certificate in Craven Co. However, her younger brother Johnny's tombstone birthdate is shown as July 1912. This is not possible for them to have been born within 6 months of each other. Additionally, on the 1920 census record her mother said Tillie was born in 1 911 a nd, according to her siblings ages and family, that is probably the correct year. I use 1912 to be consistent with her "delayed" b irth certificate which is the "official recognized date of birth" Tillie never knew how her name was intended to be spelled. When she started school her teacher spelled it Tillie and that is what has stood the test of time. She was no doubt named after her Daddy's sister, whose spellings included both Telah and Telie Tillie only finished the 8th grade but she was an extremely smart lady. She said that when they were little, her mother (Granny) would not let them take their long underwear off until May 1 so they would sneak in the bushes and take their underwear off and hang them in the woods until after school and then put them back on before going home. Another memory of Tillie is that she had to start helping around the house so early in life that she put a dishpan in a chair seat so that she could wash dishes. She married Clem M. Dixon Nov 3, 1928 in Pamlico Co. and is shown as 17. On the 1930 census they were in Hopewell, Prince George Co , VA . Clem as 26 and they were living on 3rd St and both employed; he in a paper mill and she in a silk mill as a "lacer ". Tillie returned to Pamlico Co. before Nov 5, 1933. She and Clem were divorced in Pamlico Co. on Nov 5, 1934 having attested to being separated for at least 2-years and a resident of Pamlico "for at least the past year". It has been said that Tillie was pregnant while in Hopewell. No birth or death record was located by the Virginia Vital Records office in Richmond nor any other evidence found relative to a baby. Tillie did say in the early stage of her Alz . disease that "she had a son who would cry out in his sleep". Sometime before Dec 1936 Tillie moved to New Bern, met and married George Ellis. They eloped to SC in Dec 1936 but we have never learned where. Tillie and George had one daughter (Margaret), born in Jan 1938. Tillie and George separated in Jul 1942 and divorced in Nov 1946. Tillie was to receive $42 per month for support of Margaret; an amt. said to have never been paid. Tillie Married John Beaman in 1952 and they had one daughter, Rachel. John died in 1984 of Pancreatic Cancer and Tillie died in 2005 of A l z h iemer's .................................................................. . . . . .............................................................. .. .. .. .. ....................
