Note: The birth of (Eady, Edy, Edith) Stocks is based on the 1870 Crave n C o u nty, NC Census: age 32. At that point she is listed with two c hild re n , Mary E., age 7 and Julia A., age 7/12. Census was take n 7 Jul 1 870 . note that the spelling of of her name, both given and surname, a s w e l l as approximate age is in conflict on every census and docume n t o f re cord, including the record of her Burial (Cedar Grove Cemet ar y Mi crofi lm listing E. Connway, age 43) on Jan 15, 1889 in New Be rn , NC. David Stocks and Olive Williams of Lenoir County, NC were her par e n t s (based on the 1850 Census of Lenoir, MF page 152.) The censu s li st ' s David Stock (35) and Olive (40) and several children, incl udin g Ea dy , age 7. The age of this Eady is in conflict with later i nform atio n bu t I believe it is the right Eady. Without question, our presumed "Edith Stocks" is the correct ances t o r , age 20, living in the 6th Ward of New Bern, Craven County on t h e 1 86 0 Census. She is living with (head of household) Caroline Con wa y , a wi dow and future (half) sister-in-law of "Eady's" soon to b e hu sb and hus band, Albert Conway. Caroline was the widow of Albert' s hal f-b rothe r , George Conway, both sons of Stephen Conway. Alber t by An n Ya tes an d George by Ann's sister, Elizabeth Yates. The follow-on census (1870), EDY is 32. Notwithstanding the spell i n g a nd year of birth, the 1870 Craven serves as the basis for th e bi rt h o f her children. The birth of her daughter Julia Ann (my Great-Grandmother) agree' s w i t h all follow-on data, including her 1941 Death Certificate. Ho weve r , h er sister Mary's age on the 1870 census conflicts with he r deat h c erti ficate, the source of data which I have used for her i nformat ion . Mar y was born, assuming the month on her Death Certifi cate i s cor rect, i n April and thus on the date of the census, if s he was i n fac t 7, he r year of birth would have been 1863. Her Deat h Certific ate in dicate s 1865.
