Note: Wally was cremated. A memorial service was held in Charlotte at his church.
Burial arrangements were made through Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home, 59 N. Jefferson Ave. Cookeville, Tennessee 38501; phone: 931-526-6111. Shirley bought the tombstone in Cookeville at a company that is now out of business
To get to the cemetery:
If traveling east on I40, get off east of Cookeville at exit 290, travel south about 3 miles on Route 70 North to Dry Valley, turn right on Cherry Creek Road, travel 1000 feet, turn left onto Phifer Mountain Road. Take Phifer Mountain Road 4 miles to Burnett. Bear left. Phifer Mountain Road becomes Pleasant Ridge Road. Follow Pleasant Ridge Road 1.3 miles to Pleasant Ridge. Pleasant Ridge Road will become Round Cove Road. Travel about 3/4 mile, and turn right on Board Valley Road. Travel 1 mile down into the valley. The cemetery is on the left (east) side of the road.
If traveling west on I40, get off at either exit 301 or 300 in Monterey, and travel west on Route 70 to Pinhook, Sand Springs and Mill Creek. About 1/4 mile west of Mill Creek turn left (south) on Walker Mountain Road. Go toward Pleasant Ridge. At the intersection of Walker Mountain Road, Bluff Top Road, Pleasant Ridge Road and Round Cove Road, turn left on Round Cove Road. Travel about 3/4 mile, and turn right on Board Valley Road. Travel 1 mile down into the valley. The cemetery is on the left (east) side of the road.
Wally's grave is in the northeast corner. The stone is double-wide, rose granite slab, about two feet high. Wally's name is on the west side. The names of Bonnie, Betty, Wally, Jr. and Ken are on the east side.
