  Joseph Henry Bateman
 BURLINGTON - Joseph Henry Bateman, 94, formerly of the Home Place, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Liberty Commons.
 A native of Charles County, Md., he was son of the late Joseph H. Bateman, Sr. and Lydia Virginia Swan Bateman and husband of the late Kathryn Betty Whitesell and Daphene Wyrick Bateman who survives. He was a member of Corkran United Methodist Church in Temple Hills, Md., a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a retired carpenter.
 Mr. Bateman is survived by his wife Daphene Wyrick Bateman of Burlington; daughter Mrs. Ginger Lee Maddox of Sulpher Springs, Texas; two grandchildren; his caregiver, Carl Welch; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; two sisters, Alline Rebecca Bateman and Mary Bateman; and a brother, Thomas Roland Bateman.
 Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004, at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Craig McMahan. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 to 10:45 prior to the service. Mr. Bateman will then be taken to Kalas Funeral Home in Oxon Hill, Md., where the family will receive friends from noon to 1:00 p.m. Friday prior to the burial in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, Md.
