  OBITUARIES Mrs. Dorothy Beckom Smith
 BURLINGTON - Mrs. Dorothy Beckom Smith , 89, of Burlington Manor, formerly of Pagetown Road, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Alamance Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
 A native of Alamance County, she was wife of the late William Allen Smith and daughter of the late John William and Mary Ida Whitesell Beckom . She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, volunteered with Alamance County Hospital Auxiliary, and retired from Burlington Industries J. Spencer Love Plant.
 She is survived by two daughters, Hazel Wrenn and husband, Bill, of Raleigh and Nettie Buckner of Pagetown, Burlington; four grandchildren, Beverly Jackson, Butch Wrenn and wife, Kelly, Tammy Blumreiter and Keith Buckner; three great-grandchildren, Cathryn, Matthew and Madison; one sister, Annie Lee Madren and husband, Joe, of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; five brothers, Tom Beckom , Ernest Beckom , Jack Beckom , Jim Beckom and Bud Beckom ; five sisters, Florence Faucette, Maggie Smith , Pearl Ingold, Bertha Garrison and Ethel Mansfield.
 Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Bethel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Renee Burnette, pastor. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Smith will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of the daughter, Nettie Buckner, 5032 Pagetown Road, Burlington, N.C.
