He married Mary Gladys Irene Watson on 14 March 1942 and had two sons, Russell Albert James and Anthony John ( Jon ). They had another child that was stillborn in 1946. He and Gladys were divorced about 1953.
Russell had inherited his father and Grandfathers talent for building, drawing and model making. he was a keen enthusiast of model planes. He served in the Royal Australian Navy during the later part of the war years. He became a tiler by trade and resided mainly in Sydney. He never re married but had a number of de facto relationships, none of which produced any children that we know of. Russell only saw his two sons a couple of times after the divorce.
Russell enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy on 29 sept 1938. His service records show that he was part of the Commissioning party for HMAS Waterhen. His Eldest Son Russell Albert James, who also served in the Navy was coincidently part of the commissioning party for the second HMAS Waterhen in 1962.
