  In a letter written Mar 17, 1850 from Rockton, Illinois, George Fuller wrote the following:I have Bought a Cow paid l2 1/2 for her. She is 7 years, Read and white. Is almost the seise of your Brindle cow. Cows are rather high here. Folks say I got her cheap. I had her of Semore Dodge. He had to allow 15 for her on a cash note. He is bound for California as well as everybody else. There is nothing else to talk of here. And it is just so every where I have been. When I was comeing home from Ioway, I met lots of teams. I dont know any of the particulars but I know that Frank is agoing to find a ...... for Semore and Mr. Oliver and wone of his boys is going and they are giving one third they make the first year. They talk of starting this weak. There is two companyes going from Beloit.

 California wagon train lists, April 5, 1849 to October 20, 1852 on page 111 mentions a S. F. Dodge. Also, the 1851 Sacremento City Directory on p. 16, lists Dodge, S F, Buckeye house. This was the only Dodge listed in Sacramento directory. Could his middle initial have been "F"?
