Notes
a. Note:   Death Of Old Resident At the Allegany Hospital, Cumberland, where he had been receiving treatment for several weeks, Edward Brennan, one of Lonaconing's oldest and most highly respected citizens, died yesterday morning after a prolonged illness. Mr. Brennan was born in County Queens, Ireland, in 1834, and he was 81 years old. He came to Lonaconing in 1865, immediately upon his arrival in this country, and he has resided here continuously for the past fifty years. Mr. Brennan followed the acocation of a coal miner for many years, but some years ago he retired from the arduous labor and had practically lived a retired life for some time, devoting all his time to his home and residence property on Douglas avenue. The deceased had always taken an active interest in public affairs and he was unusually well read for a laboring man, and had acquired an exceptional amount of knowledge, being a good conversationalist and most entertaining and agreeable in social associations. He was a Democrat in politics and on several occasions had been urged to become a candidate for the legislature and other public offices by his friends. Mr. Brennan is survived by his widow, three sons and two daughters, as follows: Messrs. Edward Jr., Neal and John Brennan, Mrs. Bernard McPartland and Mrs. Mary Brennan, all of Lonaconing, Miss Brennan being a successful teacher in the public schools of Eastern Shore for many years. Mr. Brennan was a member of Division No. 1, Ancient Order of Hiberians and St. Mary's Benevolent Society, and had been a devout member of St. Mary's Catholic Church here, throughout his life. The funeral arrangements have not yet been announced, but will probably take place Monday morning from his late home on Douglas avenue, with services in St. Mary's Church by Rev. Father Joseph P. Nolan. Mr. Brennan was well known throughout this region and Allegany county, and was exceedingly popular amongst his many acquaintances.
