That I was attacked with rheumatism in the early part of July 1864 while in the army at Parkersburg W.Va. We marched from Lynchburg to Gauly River without rations, and from Gauley River we went to Parkersburg where I was taken with rheumatism.
We went from Parkersburg to Cherry Run on the B&O RR, where I was put into convalescent Camp. From there I was sent to Harpers Ferry and remained there until Sept. 1864. I still had rheumatism up to the time of my discharge and have been affected with it more or less ever since. I would also state that it is not the result of vicious habits and that I believe it to be permanent, as I have been treated for it by at least a half dozen different Doctors.
This testimony was prepared from my oral statements to James R. Anderson in Lonaconing Md. March 8, 1894, and I herby state that I was not aided nor prompted by any written or printed statement or recital prepared, or dictated by any other person,
x John Kirby (Signature of Affiants)
