Note: From Houseman & Birk Funeral Home, Clear Lake, SD Joyce R. (Anderson) Iott was born February 22, 1927 on a farm in McPherson County, near Leola, SD to August L. and Dorothy (Ely) Anderson. She attended her first four years of grade school in McPherson County at a country school. In 1938, her family moved to Grant County to live on a farm near rural LaBolt, SD, where she attended her remaining grade school years at a Grant County country school, graduating 8th grade in 1941. In the spring of 1943, the family purchased a farm in Antelope Valley Township, Deuel County, SD. Joyce attended school in Revillo, SD, graduating in 1945. She then attended Teacher's Summer School at what is now Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. She received her elementary teaching certificate and taught one year at District #51 in Rome Township, near Goodwin, SD and the following year at Glenwood District#57 near Gary, SD. On September 28, 1947 Joyce was united in marriage to Fred Knock at the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Revillo, where they were members and became active as Sunday school teachers, youth group leaders and Joyce enjoyed Ladies Aid and other duties. The couple made their home on Joyce's parent's farm near rural Revillo after her father's passing away on September 7, 1948, remaining there for 36 years. Joyce enjoyed farm life with her husband Fred. In May of 1956, they were blessed to be able to adopt a baby daughter, Janet Jewell, who was born on January 16, 1956. The family spent happy years together with Janet growing up on the farm. Joyce had fond memories of loving their farm life together, being busy caring for her family with her flower gardens, vegetable garden, canning, caring for the farm animals but, especially enjoying the care of her sheep, the poultry and raising baby chicks each spring. In the fall of 1983, the couple sold their farm and bought a home in Clear Lake. They joined the United Methodist Church where Joyce was active in the United Methodist Women, church circles, other church activities, also enjoying her coffee groups and Fred was active in the Lion's Club. On April 30, 2000, her husband Fred passed away from cancer at the Clear Lake Hospital. Joyce was grateful for being able to share 52 years together. She enjoyed all the wonderful family times shared with the whole Knock family over the years. On November 23, 2001, Joyce and Kenneth J. Iott were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. Together they made their home at the same location as the cozy home Joyce had lived since moving to Clear Lake. Joyce and Kenneth enjoyed their life together living in Clear Lake and their travels in their motorhome, visiting states in the South and in the West. They also enjoyed visiting family and friends, plus attending many family occasions and wonderful reunions held in Michigan. They enjoyed keeping busy throughout the months not spent traveling in their motorhome with various activities and work about their home. Joyce especially lovingly remembered all the enjoyable times with the whole Iott family; all the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce's favorite hobby during her travels was photography and she always had her camera ready in her hand to capture events, particularly loving her photos of family and friends. She delighted in the many photo albums she filled her lifetime, collecting many precious memories in albums to enjoy again and again. Joyce felt especially thankful that her husband Kenneth recognized she had never been baptized and so, she was baptized on February 5, 2016. Joyce and Kenneth were blessed with 14 years of marriage before her passing into her eternal home on Monday, March 21, 2016. Blessed be her memory. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Kenneth Iott, Clear Lake, SD; daughter, Janet Hensley, Abbeville, AL; two granddaughters: Rebecca (Brandon) Pinkston and Kimberly (Robert) Winslow; great-grandchildren: Kailey, Cahrin, Kelsie, Wyatt, Makinna and Sopia, all of Hutchinson, KS, niece Julie (Neal) Grisso, Evanston, WY, nephew James Oberlander, New York, cousins: Eleanor Taggatz, Chanhassen, MN, Erving Ely and Kenneth Ely, both of California and many relatives of the Knock and Iott families.
