Frederick Karl Marsch
Fred Marsch, age 87, a longtime resident of Gary, passed away July 27, 1991 at his home in Gary. Fred was born February 9, 1904 in Insel Fehmarn, Germany, a son of Ernest and Doris (Schaefer) Marsch. He came to the United States with his sister and mother, landing in New York on May 1, 1925. They then came to Gary, SD. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Knock on November 26, 1930 at Lennox, SD. They lived on a farm near Marietta, MN before moving into Gary in 1945. Fred worked for the City of Gary, first as a policeman and then as the manager of the municipal liquor store until his retirement in 1967. His wife passed away on November 15, 1984.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany and he was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gary. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by a sister, Marie Antley of Gary and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held on July 30, 1991 at 2 pm at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gary with the Rev. Bruce Mueller officiating.
