Note: . He helped his brother in establishing a store at the Rocky River goldfields in 1856, later being joined by Franklin Jackes.
After leaving the NSW goldfields he established a printing business, Cleghorn and Son, in Brisbane (in 1865 at Bryden's Buildings; in 1874 the business was in Adelaide St and in 1888 it was listed at Edward St).
Note: Alexander arrived in Hobart, Tasmania in 1855 on the 'Conway', joining his older brother William in Hobart. Alexander spent 9 months in Hobart then joined his brother on the trip to Sydney. They arriving on 9th April 1856, travelling on the 'Lion'
