Notes
a. Note:   l surrounding entries on the register appear to be written in the same perfect handwriting including the names of witnesses, so it must be assumed the witnesess did not actually sign the register but their names were written in by the Curate, perhaps from a slip of paper at a later time.
If traditional naming patterns of the time were followed Mary's parents would have been Phillip and Eleanor, unfortunately no such marriage appears on the IGI at time of writing.
The Abbey Dore vital index CD only records 13 Gilbert christenings from 1666 to 1849, none of them a Mary. Apart from Mary's, there were two other Abbey Dore Gilbert marriages, one an Eleanor who married John Pritchard in 1785 (issue Anne b 1787 and John b 1792 Abbey Dore).
And the other a David Gilbert who married Martha Parry 1778. It appears this David and Martha moved to Clodock and Longtown and had 7 children, one of them named Phillip the same as Mary's second son.
Perhaps this Eleanor Gilbert and David Gilbert who married at Abbey Dore were siblings to our Mary and a future check of marriage witnesses may throw up some light.
There were quite a number of Gilbert families in Clodock and Longtown and it may turn to be her origins.
Another Clodock and Longtown possible connection is the fact a john Gilbert Lewelling was christended on 28th November 1807 and a john gilbert Llewellings on 5th June 1808 (batch J138571) both to a single mother, Elizabeth.I assume it is the same birth being recorded.
Mary cannot be the Mary Gilbert born at Kilpeck in 1752 (sister Ann born 1758) to a Benjamin and Mary Gilbert (batch C138971) as she would have to be 52 years of age for her last born daughter Elizabeth born 1804.
With her chidren born from 1791 to 1804 a speculative birth range of 1760 to 1770 would be reasonable making her 21 or 31 for her first born and 34 or 44 for birth last born.
On the 3rd & 27th March 1809 Richard llewellyn was paid Parish assistance on account of his "wife being very ill"
Sadly Mary died and was buried on Thursday 6th July 1809.
With both sons by this time working away from home a lot of repsonsibility would have fallen on 16 yera old Eleanor to maintain the household and look after her 10 & 5 year old sisters. It must have been a very tough time in the Llewellyn household.
  Future Gilbert Research :
Worth keeping in mind is that a Theophilus Gilbert was recorded being paid for filling indentures by the Abbey Dore churchwardens in 1800 and 1804. This Theophilus is most likely to be the same as on IGI batch C054723 baptised at Rowlstone 14/9/1759 the son of Benedictus & Mary with a brother Benedictus baptised 3/11/1762 and are a possible connection to Mary.
A Gilbert family at Llantillio, Monmouth that looked very promising as ancestors as there was not only a daughter Mary right circa but a sister Ann (an Ann was a witness at their marriage) and the parents Phillip and Mary would account for the forname Phillip being introduced to the family. A Walter Savige who has done research on the Gilbert's of Llancillo, Hereford advised that the Llantillio, Monmouth Gilberts were connected to his Llancillo Gilberts and eventally were all buried there, including the targetted Mary. He advsied he found on the Llancillo B.T's"28 July 1792 - burial of Mary, daughter of Philip Gilbert." His work may rule out another Mary Gilbert born Llancillo 1751 as she later married William Stevens in 1782 at Llancillo. This all still needs to be checked.
Regaridng Marriage witness Ann Gilbert - Eleanor Harris, researcher, found an Anne Gilbert spinster of Walterstone marrying a John Preece bachelor of Bacton on the 26th July 1793 at Walterstone, with a 73 year old Phillip Gilbert as witness, on the lines of being a possible sister to Mary. However an earlier Walterstone marriage of a Mary Gilbert to James Morgan on 23rd May 1781 must rule out these two Waltersone Gilbert girls. Everyone also signed the registers whereas our Mary Gilbert could only make her mark at Abbey Dore in 1788. The will of this Phillip Llewellyn in 1796 also only named his two sons Phillip & John. There is also an 85 year old Widow Ann Gilbert in th 1841 census at Clodock , she is 3 doors along from another Gilbert household being 75 yo David & 70 yo John , 30 yo Caleb , 30 yo Hannah & 4 yo Mary. In another household are a 14 yo Sarah and 10 yo Phillip Gilbert with 65 yo farmer Charles Williams. Given the birth circa of 1756 this Ann Gilbert being a Widow she could not be a sister to our Mary Gilbert and woud be too young to be her mother.
It is worth keeping in mind that Mary Gilbert could have been a widow, as Richard Llewellyn was 32 years old when he married and Mary died well before him in 1809, age not recorded.
A few Ancestry.com trees have proposed the Mary Gilbert baptised 20 Dec 1768 at Much Dewchurch ( parents John & Elizabther) as being the Mary Gilbert who married Richard at Abbey Dore.
While it is possible it seems doubtful and connection has mots likley been made from an ancestry "hint"
The Ages at marriage are hard to accept with the Much Dewchurch Mary being only 19 and marrying a 33 year old Richard.
It is more likely given that there were Gilbert families at Abbety Dore she was born at Abbey Dore and "of the Parish" as stated in the banns & marriage records.
Note:   Mary married Richard Llewellyn on the 13th May 1788 at Abbey Dore and made her cross on the register. One of the witnesses to the wedding was an Ann Gilbert and one could safely assume a relative, possibly her mother or sister. This entry and al
