Note: te recorded before Ann's does have a date of 27th December 1833.
Both Ann and husband William South made their marks and were recorded as both of the Parish of Abbey Dore.The witnesses at Ann's marriage were a John Williams and a Mary Williams, who both made their mark. There were no other Abbey Dore SOUTH births or marriages on the IGI so perhaps William originilly came from another Parish.
There were two Anne & Willam South couples in Herefordshire at the same time.
Another William South married Ann Norman at St. Peters , Hereford on the 24th June 1830. The 1841 census at All Saints, Hereford records a William South 35 yo Carpenter and Ann South 45 yo with a 6 year old son John. There is no record of John on the IGI. Also in the same house were Samuel Smith 25, Charles Elliot 20 and Robert Hoskins 30. All three of this South family are not to be found at any subsequent census dates. The obtained death certificate of this Anne South showed her as widow of a joiner who died on 5th December 1850 at Eign Street, All Saints and is recorded as 59 years of age putting her birth at 1791 being 8 years earlier than our Ann.
The Free BMDonly begins at Sept. 1837 so there is a chance she died between her marriage year 1833 and 1837.
Still to be checked is the Dec qtr 1851 death of am Ann South ( no age stated) in the Bromyard district Vol 26 page 107.
If Ann was Widowed and married again there are five Ann's in the UK Cenus returns born at Abbey Dore circa 1800 being :
60 yo Widow Ann Morgon at Abbey Dore 1861 She was at Abbey Dore 1851 and now ruled out as her oldest son William was born 1831.
64 yo Widow Ann Davies at Ewyas Harold 1861 had a 16 yo daughter b. 1845. Would have to have been twice widowed to fit in ( possibly Anne Brookes married a Samuel Davies 1835 )
54 yo Ann Cooke at All Saints 1851 married to John Cooke
54 yo Ann Nicholls at Leominster 1851 married to John Nicholls
46 yo Anne Porter at Mansell Gamage 1851 married to Edward Porter
No marriages to any of the above found on the IGI.
Note: Ann was recorded receiving parish assistance upto the 26th February 1827 at Abbey Dore. The IGI has the wedding date as 31st December 1833 however the marriage register copied by the writer does not have a date only the year as 1833. The certifica
