Note: e 1881 census.Occupation schoolmaster a.m.Jesus College Chaplin of Brentford union. Alan Homes wrote in Feb 12006 - " Last week I wrote to the Chiswick Local Studies Library (the area which covers Brentford) requesting any information they might have on Henry Griffith Hayden and have received the folowing reply: Egglesfield High School for Boys, The Butts was a private school run by Rev. Hayden. It appears to take its name from the building it was in, Egglesfield Villas, and may also have been called the Middle Class School. It was not, as far as I can tell, connected in anyway to the Workhouse. The Butts is both a road and an area of Brentford and the layout is still very similar to that of the late nineteenth century. According to the Directories that we hold here Rev. H.G. Hayden was first resident in Brentford in 1867 as Headmaster of the Middle Class Collegiate School, High Street, New Brentford. in 1872 he is listed at the Ealing Deanery School, High Street, New Brentford and in 1874 the School is the Middle Class School but he is also Minister of Boston Road Independent Chapel. In 1877 he is no longer Minister of the Chapel and the school is the Ealing Deanery School again, 1878 it is again called the Middle Class School, 141 High Street, New Brentford. In 1882 Hayden and the Middle Class School have moved to 2 Egglesfield Villas, The Butts, New Brentford and in 1888 and 1890 he is listed at 2 Egglesfield Villas but the school is not. Today I visited The National Archives and found the following register: List of Paid Workhouse Employees (TNA Reference Number MH/9/3) BRENTFORD Office: Chaplain Name of Officer: Rev. Henry Griffith Hayden, Jany 1879 (The name had a line drawn through it and written in red ink was: Revd H.G.H. died May 1891) Salary: ยน100 This all helps to add a little 'flesh-on-the-bones' as they say.Regards, Alan"
Note: On the 15th June 1862 in the cathedral church of St.Paul in London, Henry was ordained a priest in the United church of England and Ireland.Henry was residing at "the Butts Egglesfield high school for boys" in Ealing Middlesex England during th
