a. Note:   On Oct. 7, 1824, Hubert donated land 15 feet wide for a right of way for a canal to pass from the Bayou Terrebonne to the Bayou Lafourche with the condition that it be used for that purpose only. Witnessed by John Culbertson and L.B. Thibodaux and signed by Hubert Bellanger, Judges F. M. Guyol and Leufroy Barras. (Terrebonne Life Lines, vol. 15, #4, p. 306)
 He is credited with being the founder of Houma along with his brother in law, Richard H. Grinage.
 In May of 1830, Hubert opened a subdivision nine miles down the bayou. A four street settlement he called Newport. Street names were Front, Main, Market and Cypress. Like many newly named settlements, the name was dropped. The people called it Canal Belanger and it is now known as Bourg, La.
