Note: Funeral Notice - Found in the Family Bible of Mary Neumann Buenger: The friends and acquaintances of the family are invited to attend the funeral of Chas. L. Buenger, aged 56 years, whose death occurred Thursday morning at his late residence north of the city on the Shiner Road. The funeral will take place Saturday morning, March 7, 1914 at 10 o'clock. Interment will take place in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Newspaper article - Found in the Family Bible of Mary Neumann Buenger: Resolutions of Respect - We, your committee appointed to draft resolutions of respect, beg to leave to report as follows: Whereas, we have been called upon to mourn the loss of our esteemed Brother Praetorian, C. L. Buenger, and knowing him as we did to be a man of sterling worth, a valued friend; in other words, one of Nature's noblemen. We deplore his death and extend to his bereaved family that sympathy that comes from hearts that beat in unison with those of our fellowmen. And while his lips are forever closed, his hands folded across his pulse-less breast and his spirit has gone out into the Great Beyond in quest of the one he so dearly loved, yet, his influence for good that comes only from a well-spent life, such as he lived, will ever stand as a monument to his memory. Therefore, be it Resolved, that we adopt these resolutions and send a copy of same to the family of Brother Buenger and that they be spread upon our Minutes as a permanent record of this Council; and, be it further Resolved, that our altar be draped in mourning for a period of thirty days. Signed R. J. Sladek, F. W. Arlitt, Geo. W. Woodrome. Committee Praetorian's Council, No. 58, Yoakum, Texas, March 14, 1914. Cause of Death: Suicide (Gun Shoot Wound?) - Had cancer on face and was despondant about future. Had a farm on the north side of what is now known as the Old Shiner Road in Yoakum. Also had two rent houses - one at 511 North South Street and the other at 107 Houston Ave. - both in Yoakum. After his death, his wife sold the farm and moved into the house at 511 North South Street where she lived until her death in 1942. His son, Elo A., bought the house at 107 Houston Ave, from his mother in 1939 and lived in it until his death in 1985. After Elo died, his daughter Evelyn lived in the house for a few years before selling it and moving to Maple Street in Yoakum. In 2005, both of these house are still standing, are occupied, and have the same appearance on the outside as they did when they were owned by the Buengers.
