Notes
a. Note:   This family added an "e" to their last name (making it Boothe) upon coming to Texas in the early 1850s. Their reason for doing this is not known. All of their relatives in Georgia continued to spell their name as "Booth".
Stella Lawson Boothe, in her Boothe Family Book, published in 1955, wrote the following about W.S. Boothe:
"The family bought land in the Swindell Survey on McCoy Creek in DeWitt Co., and much of it is still owned by the descendants. William S. Boothe was a cotton and corn farmer and owned several slaves. He was of medium height, weighing about 150 pounds. By nature, he was social and was well informed on the Bible and current events over the state. He was a Mason and a Baptist and was also a loyal Confederate, sending four of his sons to the War Between The States. In the early days, when wild game was plentiful throughout Texas, he was well known as a hunter and fisherman.
The son of a farmer, he grew to manhood in Georgia with little formal education but, possessing good business ability, he made money easily and soon after he setled in Texas, became prosperous enough that he had money to lend people to buy homes. It was then that he saw the need for a bank and helped organize the First National Bank of Yoakum in 1890."
