Note: Andrew J. Moore was born January 24, 1832 near Franklin, Williamson Co., Tennessee. He was the fourth of eight children born to William Moor (1793 S.C. - 1856 Gonzales Co. Texas) and Lucy Cooper (1804 - 1850 Dyer Co., Tennessee). The family lived in Williamson County until the early 1840's and then moved to Dyersburg, Dyer Co., Tennessee. In Dyersburg, the family operated a "Tanning Yard" near the edge of town. In June of 1853, Andrew, his father William and his three younger brothers - James, William Jr., and Dee - left Tennessee and came to Gonzales, Texas. Their home was located just north of the present day Masonic Cemetery in Gonzales. One of Andrew's sisters, Martha, and her husband John Baldridge, also came to Gonzales at this same time. All of the living members of this family were now in Texas except the oldest daughter, Mary Moor Nichols, who stayed in Dyersburg with her husband and family. Andrew's father William died January 1, 1856 without leaving a will and Andrew, being the oldest living son, was appointed administrator of his father's estate. Among the items he paid in settling the estate was a bill for $18 from John Cox of Gonzales for making his father's coffin; a bill from B.B. Peck Dry Goods Store in Gonzales; and his brother's $15 Tuition Fee to Gonzales College for the 1856 Fall Term. The location of William Moor's grave is unknown. On September 7, 1858, Andrew married Virginia Tinsley, the daughter of Dr. John T. and Nancy Tinsley of Gonzales. Virginia's father was one of the early settlers of Gonzales, having come to the area in the early 1830's from Tennessee. Andrew and Virginia had two children - Martha born Nov. 12, 1861 and Frank Morgan born Jan. 4, 1863. The family lived on 200 acres in the A. Winters Survey northeast of Gonzales. Andrew raised livestock for a partnership known as Parker and Moore which he had formed in 1859 with H.S. Parker, an attorney in Gonzales. Virginia Tinsley Moore died in January of 1865 and was buried in the Tinsley Family Plot in the Masonic Cemetery in Gonzales. Andrew married his second wife, Melissa Ann Catherine Booth, on Sept. 27, 1865. She was born Nov. 4, 1839 in Elbert Co. Georgia and was the daughter of William S. and Lucy Parham Boothe of DeWitt Co., Texas. Her family came to Texas in the early 1850's and her father had extensive land holdings in DeWitt and surrounding counties. Andrew and Melissa had one son, Robert I. Moore born Nov. 26, 1866. The family lived near the community of Maurin, in eastern Gonzales County, where Andrew was a rancher until his death on April 27, 1893. He is buried beside his first wife, Virginia Tinsley, in the Masonic Cemetery in Gonzales. His second wife, Melissa Boothe, died in 1912 and is buried at Hochheim in DeWitt County with their son, Robert I. Moore and his family.
