Note: 0 acres, Lot 105, District 11. In same tax Digest, S. E.(I?) Waldrep paid Poll Tax. Information on this family is from many sources, especially from census records, records of the Providence Baptist Church in Batesville, GA ,courthouse records in the Habersham Co Courthouse in Clarkesville ,GA, but most was from family sources. Joseph Brown Waldrep, Jr. o fGainesville, GA provided information about parents and early family .James L. Waldrep of Dahlonega, GA provided very extensive informat ionabout many others and especially about descendants of James Lafay etteWaldrep who was his great-grandfather. Records about Joseph an d hisdescendants are in the possession of James L. Waldrep of Dahlon ega,GA and Lloyd A. Waldrep, a Texan who is temporarily of Minnetonk a,MN. Mickye Waldrep of OR has many records, especially of the Tex as,California and Oregon family members. The place where Joseph lived and paid taxes on (Lot 105, District 11 )in Habersham County was originally awarded to Darlin Sapp in the 1827 G ALand Lottery. Darlin Sapp was a resident of Liberty Co GA at the time h eentered the Lottery, but died shortly afterward (about 1827) in Tatnall Co GA. Buddy Sapp has a copy of the Will of Darlin Sapp in which he left all his property to his wife Sarah and to two sons, Henry and Bartley Sapp. This land in Habersham County was sold on 16 Aug. 1882 to James J. Harris by George E. Waldrep (the youngest son of Joseph and Tabitha Waldrep) and was recorded on 20 Dec. 1886. Witnesses: Joseph R. Morrison and Jesse Morrison. Joseph only owned part of the original Lot 105, District 11. We did not find Joseph or Tabitha in cemetery listings for Habersham County GA or in any other record, but are still searching. In the 1832 Cherokee County Georgia Land Lottery, Joseph Waldrup wa sgranted Land Lot 222, 4th District, 2nd Section, (Sutton) Habersham Co. Furnished by Felton Waldrep in 1995. Joseph sold land he received in Cherokee Co GA to Mr. Jesse Green o n30 Oct. 1833. The copy of the deed copy in our files came from the files o fMimi Jo Butler. Lot No. 222, District 4, Sec. 2, Cherokee Co Georgia, Book A, P 101. 1830/40/50/60 U.S. Census Habersham County, Georgia. 1850 Census list Aaron Wooten, age 38 in household. 1860 Census list Mahulda Wooten, age 36, and son Benjamin Wooten, age 8. Informant: Mrs. Margaret L. Waldrep, 903 N.W. Forest Street, Hillsboro, OR 97124. Search of National Archives failed to show Joseph receiving a Federa lLand Grant. From the 1860 Minutes of Providence Baptist Church of Batesville, GA ,mention is made "received acknowledgement of J. J. Waldroupe." Was this ou rJoseph? If so is his full name John Joseph Waldroup or James Joseph Waldroup ?John Joseph is a name used several times in one line of descendants. Speling of the surname has been shown in various ways over the years .In the Habersham County records, Waldrope, Waldroup, Waldroupe, Waldrup, Waldrop have been used. In the church records, both of Providence Baptist Church in Batesville and of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Clarkesville, the spelling was Waldroup in most instances until well after 1870, and then Waldrep was the usual spelling. There are a number of photocopies of original courthouse records (made by Lloyd Waldrep, Jim Waldrep and Mimi Jo Butler in summer of 1993 )in the files of Lloyd Waldrep. Pictures were taken on many headstones in the cemetery during this trip and are in files of Lloyd A. Waldrep.
Note: From Habersham County Tax Digest, 1850; Joseph Waldrep paid Poll Tax ;4
