Notes
a. Note:   N57 Raymond was a farmer in White Russia, according to his son-in-law Stan Ovshinsky’s biographer Lillian Hoddeson. Raymond was the first Munitz to arrive in the US, per Esther Posen. New York Passenger Lists 1820-1957 has a German named R J Munitz arriving on May 24, 1884 on the Republic sailing from Liverpool, England and Queenstown, Ireland.
His middle name was "Jerome" according to Rose Ekus in an interview with Lourie Rapport, but most sources call him "Raymond J. Munitz". First name spelled "Yerachmiale" on daughter Anna's marriage certificate.
Raymond died of pneumonia only two years after coming to the US. “Unable to adjust to life in America, he had, according to family lore, spent most of his time sitting in shul with a book.“ Died of paralysis due to a cerebral hemorrhage, according to his death certificate (source 263).
Raymond is buried in Sherbondy Hill cemetery in Akron near his son Morris and daughter-in-law Leah, per Esther Posen. An English translation of the Hebrew inscription on his tombstone: "Here lies our dear father, God-fearing, our teacher, the Rabbi Yerachmiel Yaakov, son of the honored Israel Munitz, died 6th of Iyar [5]675." JewishGen member Fredel Jacobs Fruhman says that “I must, however, point out that this abbreviation [for rabbi] was sometimes copied from the text of other headstones by people who did not realize what it represented, and additional research would be needed in order to determine whether the deceased was actually a rabbi.”
