a. Note:   N58 Irv's Tree called him Mendel. Grandson Don Mirman said his English name was Max and granddaughter Betty agreed, but “Hyman Max Mirman” is the name on his Death Certificate, Petition for Naturalization, Declaration of Intention, headstone and his daughter Bertha’s marriage record.
  The Hebrew text on Hyman Max Mirman’s headstone reads “Here lies our dear father, an honest man of integrity, God-fearing, our teacher, the Rabbi Chaim Menachem Mendel son of the worthy Israel of blessed memory, died with a good reputation 3 Iyar [5]686. May he be bound up in the bonds of eternal life.”. The 3rd of Iyar of the year 5686 began at sunset on April 16th, 1926, and ended at sunset on April 17th. Since the death certificate says the 16th, this narrows down the time of death to between sunset and midnight on the 16th.
  His son Abe’s headstone also shows his father’s Hebrew name as “Menachem Mendel”.
