BIOGRAPHY: MARIE was born on the family farm north of Albion and attended District 7 school. She moved to Albion with her parents in 1920 and graduated from Albion High School in 1923. After graduating from high school she taught in a country school near Elgin, Nebraska, and at District 84 school located about seven miles northwest of Albion. She then attended Bayless Business College in Dubuque, Iowa where she lived with her Aunt Sophie Meyer. Later she went to work in Omaha, Nebraska as a stenographer for the O'Brien Motor Company for a short time. Following that she worked as a secretary in the law firm of Francis P. Matthews, and also in the firm of Montgomery, Hall, Young and Johnson. After she was married to Floyd Andersen in 1928, and after their first child was born she went back to work as a public stenographer in the Union State Bank Building at 19th and Farnam. She lived in Omaha with her husband until the winter of 1930, when they moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where he was regional manager for the Real Silk Hosiery Company. They lived at various places while he was thus employed until 1933, when they moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he opened a hosiery business of his own. In the early years he operated as a hosiery broker. Five years later he was a wholesaler with a large stock of hosiery and related merchandise and a number of salesmen and other employees. At the time he retired the business was known as the Roxborough Company. Their children attended school in Kansas City and other places. They lived at 5530 Oak Street during most of the later years while the children were growing up. After the children left home Marie and Andy resided in apartments. Marie continues to live in the same apartment complex they were living in a the time of her husband's death. Marie and Andy were very helpful in getting JoAnn, Rita, Monica, and Teresa Kunzman started in business life in Kansas City after graduating from high school in Albion. They also were helpful in assisting Mary Margaret, Leona, and Barbara, daughters of Raymond Hoefer to get started in business careers. All of these girls first stayed with Andy and Marie in their home until they were able to establish themselves, whether by setting up housekeeping on their own or through marriage.
