BUSINESS: Fred Durbin, President Malvern Trust and Savings Bank Gets Fifty- Year Charter Malvern National Bank Now Under State Banking Organization
The Malvern Trust and Savings Bank, formerly the Malvern National Bank has just obtained a fifty-year charter enabling it to do business under the state banking laws of Iowa, and they are now operating under that plan. The new articles of incorporation were signed Nov. 27, and are printed on another page of this issue.
In order to make the change, which had been contemplated by the directors of the Malvern National bank for some time, it was necessary that their assets be examined and this, was done last Oct. 16. At that time the institution was found to be entirely sound and acceptable to the State Banking department.
As the present state banking laws of Iowa are much more beneficial to Iowa industry and agriculture the directors of the bank believe that the change will very materially benefit their patrons
in this territory. The entire change will be made with no inconvenience to/depositors and patrons of the institution, as the balances on acbounts, interest, and checks written will be earried forward and paid by the new bank.
The national charter of the Malvern National bank was obtained twenty-five years ago, but many changes have taken place in banking laws and practices since that time and the new institution has wanted to secure the advantages of the new charter.
Fred Durbin, the president of the new institution has been active in obtaining better legislation for the state banking department, and has been personally responsible for an appreciable share of the recent changes. The Trust and Savings bank will have the same stockholders, same officers, as the old institution.
..... extent the new service of the bank is that contained in the Trust provIsions of the charter. This enables the bank to act as administrator, executor, and guardian of estates, and it can
receive funds in trust as provided in wills or made possible by individual or the mandates of any court. This service will be of great help to the community in furnishing the machinery to take
care of property left by decedents or property to be cared for which belongs to minors. A more complete explanation of the new institution will be found in their announcement on
page 2 of The Leader, and in the articles of incorporation.
The officers Of the new institution urge their patrons to feel free to ask about anything concerning the new charter which they do not understand, and hope to continue to maintain a strong,
serviceable banking institution for this community. The officers of the new bank:
President, Fred Durbin; vice president, F. R. Chantry; cashier, R. W. Criswell.
