Notes
a. Note:   1863: In a letter Zachariah wrote on Sept 15, 1907, he stated: 'I enlisted at Echo, Alabama, and left there Feb 15, 1863 and went to Pollard, Alabama. In the spring of 1864, the 57th was attached to Gen. Tom Scott's Louisiana Brigade. I served in the campaigns from Rosaca to Atlanta. I was with the Army until we crossed the Tennessee River in January, 1865. My foot was cut severely there on an ax, as I had been without shoes for nearly a year. I was sent to Shelby Springs Hospital, then sent home from there in Febuary, 1865. I was at home when the war ended.' [from his CSA pension file #4124] [Zachariah Kea, Corporal, 57th Alabama Infantry, Co. D. The 57th was organized in March, 1863, at Troy, in Pike County, Alabama. The 57th was in the Dalton-Atlanta Campaign, (Battle of Peach Tree Creek); also in North Carolina, at Bentonville, where it surrendered.]
1907: William Barnes, the son of Zachariah's sister Nancy, is used as a reference by Zachariah Kea in his application for CSA Pension, address Homewood, Mississippi. Zachariah (enlisted in CSA at age 38) stated that he and William (enlisted in CSA at age 18) served in the same Company. [from ZR Kea file #4124]
