Note: 1840: Abner was named after his uncle, his father's first brother, Abner M. Alexander (1796-1861). 1850: Abner, age 10, and family enumerated in the Bishopville, Sumter County, South Carolina census, page 362b. [usgenweb, electronic, sumter/pg360.txt] 1863: 'Abner was wounded at Lookout Mountain, Tenn., on Nov 8, 1863, in service of CSA.' He died as a POW a month later, on December 4th, 1863. (from his brother John's Civil War "Reminiscence") He served in CSA, 8th Regiment, Company F, "SC Volunteers."
