Note: 1845: James Kea sells (trades) 110 acres he inherited to William R Josey 7/7/1845. 1845: James Kea purchases (trades for) 110 acres of land from William R. Land bounded by Haslin Hendrix, Enoch Galloway, James Andrews. 1853: James Kea purchases 140 acres [a Promissory Note] for $1150 from his father-in-law, Bartholomew Fields, bounded by Lawson, Hendrix, Jones, Kea, and Harrell; dated 11/4/1853. [Deed Book R, pp 204.] [James' wife, Mary, inherits the $1150 Promissory Note from her father Bartholomew, Deceased 11/19/1864.] also see entries 12/12/1888 and 12/27/1907. 1870: Census? 1873: James Kea deeds 109 acres to his daughter-in-law Mary Ellen Kea, wife of Robert K Kea, on January 14, 1873. also see year 1845. 1880: James Kea and family recorded in US census; James, wife Mary, children; Thomas, (age 18,) Murzell, granddaughter Virginia Buie. [Vol. 10, ED 41, Sheet 19, line 34.] 1888: Mary Kea deeds 163 acres to her son, Bartholomew Thomas (age 26) on December 12, 1888. In 1864, Mary inherited the James Kea note of $1150, from her father, Bartholomew, who died on 11/19/1864. This is the note for the 140 acres James Kea purchased in 1853 from his father-in-law. (Darlington Co. Deeds, Book 6, Page 418) 1890: 'Mr. B. T. Kea (age 28) is hauling lumber, preparatory to erecting a house, and we hear that he is not going to live by himself, either.' Raymond died on April 13, 1894 and is buried at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church. 1897: 'Tom (age 35) and other Oates farmers were reported as making from $60 to $80 per acre on their tobacco land. They cured and graded the tobacco themselves.' ('The Hartsville Messenger,' November 18, 1897.) 1900: Bartholomew and family enumerated in the Lydia, Darlington County, South Carolina census, page 198a.
