a. Note:   1785: The Benjamin Skinner family left Lenoir Co., NC., between 1785-1790, and moved to Darlington County, SC. The James Johnson family was still in Lenoir Co., NC., until after 1800. (notes from W. Garrett Johnson, Sr., descendent of James Johnson.)
  1810's: 'Johnson family tradition is that seven siblings, 5 brothers and 2 sisters, came to western Kentucky from North Carolina. They possibly came with the Nichols-Early-Price families of about 50-60 people, probably about 1812.' [Some Webster County, Kentucky Families, by Bassett, 1983]
  1810's: The 5 brothers were probably John, Robert, Issac, Samuel, and Benjamin. The 6th brother, James, was probably still in Darlington, SC; as witnessed by the sale of James 1/9th share, dated 12/21/1819.
  1813: Jesse Skinner of Christian County, Kentucky received power of attorney from John Johnson of Caldwell County, Kentucky to collect $200 from Benjamin Skinner of South Carolina; dated 9/1813.
  1819: Benjamin Skinner, Jr., husband of Esther (Kea), witnessed the consent for Sarah Phillips to marry James Johnson, dated 2/6/1819, Union Co., Kentucky. [records of W Garrett Johnson, Sr., great-grandson of James Johnson.]
