Notes
a. Note: ath of Persis' sister Rebecca on about 26 Dec 1864 from a Miss. H. Wilmot. A few days letter he noted receiving a letter from Brother Amos Wilmot. I had assumed that Amos Wilmot must have been Rebecca's husband, but it appears he had instead married Betsey Crawford. In 1860. There is an Amos Wilmot in Sparta, Knox Co. IL with wife Betsey with daughter Hannah Wilmot, age 26, a teacher. Several Ancestry databases have Broome Co. Wilmots who ended up in Illinois.
Jacobus gave no details on the Amos Wilmot born 3 Mar 1803 who died in 1878 other than these dates.
Mr. Chapman indicated that Mr. Amos Wilmot is credited with suggesting the name of Sparta for the township at its organization.
The History of Knox County Illinois by Chapman credits Amos Wilmot for suggesting name "Sparta" for the town.
