Continued: William Smith had not been identified by the author of this database until approximately April 2002 when Roger P. Smith of Richmondville, NY emailed me outlining his identity and linking him to his Palatine Schmidt parents Nicholas Smith and Sarah Klerk. This Schmidt family had arrived in Columbia County, New York about 1710. Mr. Smith had seen my Barcume and Moot references and through these common names made the connection between his family and mine and wrote providing a wealth of information. In 2018 I was contacted by a fellow researcher who found a common DNA match with my family. I did some further research and found material on this family from Nancy L. Blomgren on Genealogy.com. I made some minor changes before appending it here: William Smith was the only son of nine children listed in his father's will. The inventory of the estate of Nicholas Smith (William's father) shows that he died owning property that William Smith later occupied as his homestead. William Smith had an estate or three farms at the time of his death. The Morse Fox farm he gave to his wife Luna and son Elisha with the understanding that Elisha would get the farm when his mother died, his Moot Farm went to his son William and the Fairbanks Farm where he was living went to sons Harry, Harvey, Casius and Harmon. Several of his sons and others are listed in his will as owing him notes. <u>Will of William Smith as supplied by Roger P.
