Notes
a. Continued:   Per Compendium of history and Biography of Northern Minnesota in article on Charles Pike the mother of Miss Armena Daily was born in Massachusetts and was of Irish Descent. If Mariah (Sally Mariah) was married in Lorain Co. Ohio, it is likely she had family living there. In the 1830 census there were several Carpenters mentioned -- Ephraim K. and Levi, both of Avon Twp, Lorain County. There was a Cyrus S. in Elyria, OH and Willard in Russia Twp, Lorain, OH. This Levi was later proved to be her father.
Her name is listed as Sally Moria, d. Levi in the Tyringham, MA Vital records to 1850. Census records have indicated Mariah, other records have indicated Sally Maria. Her name is on a joint headstone with her husband Andrew Daily and indicates "His Wife Maria 1810 - 1891". Samuel Keyes her first cousin was also born in Tyringham, Berkshire, MA. See his note.
Sally's paternal line has been traced back from her father Levi Carpenter to the early Carpenters in New England to William who came from England to Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts. Her mother Hannah KEYES descends from one of the Keyes families of Ashford, Connecticut, and after extensive searching were determined to be Ephraim Keyes (1738-1810) and Abigail Chaffee b. 17 Dec 1740 in Ashford, CT. Her ancestry goes back to Robert Keyes who died in 1647 in Newbury, Massachusetts.
Per the History of Bremer County Iowa Sally M. Daily who had apparently come to the area in 1854 became a member of the 6th annual meeting of the Old Settler's Association. The notation was that she came from Boone Co., Illinois (p. 1003).
Our family has pictures which are probably Andrew Daily, Sr. and of a woman who is likely his wife Sally Mariah Carpenter. Both pictures were taken by H.P. Kirk of Mason City, Iowa. I also have pictures of sons Roswell Keyes and Andrew, Jr., a Fina who might have been a grandchild) probably Florentina Bywater dau. of Julia, and a woman not identified with a baby. I am assuming this young woman was likely one of the daughters. These pictures were found together in an album which had belonged to Winifred Pike Banfill of Tacoma, Washington. The other pictures in the album were of the Pikes of the same two generations.
b. Continued:   Sally (Mariah) Carpenter Dailey was alive on 24 July 1870 when the census was taken.
c. Continued:   Roswell K. and Homer B. were living with Andrew and Sally in the 1870 census. The IGI on www.familysearch.org gave different marriage date and place than did the earlier IGI record. The 1988 IGI gave date of 30 Nov 1824 in Hamilton Co., OH. The Lorain Co. place and 1829 date were later proved by the marriage record. Levi and Ephraim Keyes Carpenter in Lorain Co. appear to be Mariah's family.
The marriage record from Lorain Co. Ohio reads "I certify that Andrew R. Dailey and Mariah Carpenter were united in marriage before me 9th April 1829; J. B. Jamison Justice of the Peace."
