Continued: Hugh Banfill indicated that the father of Moses BARCUME may have been John BARCUME. The name BARCUME has been spelled in a number of ways Burcum, Barcomb, Barcum, Burkham, etc. There is evidence that it is a shortened term for the French Canadian surname BERTHIAUME. The name seems to have been fairly common in Canada East (later Quebec), until 2016 at which time no BERTHIAUME ancestors of John or Moses Barcume had been identified. Per one researcher of these related families the Berthiaume family in Canada descends from Pierre Berthiaume and Jacqueline Brion (both born about 1620 in Falaise, Normandy, France). In the LDS FamilySearch database John Barcume 1798-1857 married Angelica Apple and was said to be the son of John-Baptiste Berthiaume (1771-1825) and Josephte Lefebreve Villaume b. 1771. This appears to be a different family.
