a. Continued:   Benjamin Banfield married Sarah (Sally) PLACE, daughter of Stephen Place. He is listed as age 63 retired farmer born in Vermont in the 1880 Census of Bushnell, McDonough, Illinois. Sons Chauncy (a gardener) and Solon (a lawyer) are listed in the same census.
  According to Hugh Banfill, Benjamin Banfill (1816-1885) went homesteading to Iowa abt 1866 and later in 1875 to Sioux City. He is listed as a Baptist in the 1871 Census. He settled in Bushnell, Illinois in 1876 per his wife's obituary. Benjamin was separated from his wife. He died as an elderly gentleman when with his friends he went walking through a train yard. When Benjamin walked between two cars, at that moment the train pushed them together, and it crushed him. There is a story that he invented an air brake for trains but the information was stolen and he was swindled out of a fortune. Marriage -- Potton Circuit, Methodist page F3.
